Bobbye Leeke Green

Bobbye Leeke Green died in Etowah, Tenn. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013. She was born in Bogalusa on Aug. 15, 1928. She was a lifelong resident of this community.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Bogalusa. She successfully balanced a career, home and family during her adult life. She was a longtime member of the Civic League and served in many positions of service in the community including the operations and programs of the local YWCA for many years.

She is survived by her husband, J. “Buddy” Green Jr.; a daughter, Tanda (Gary) Dykes of Reliance, Tenn.; a son, Craig (Andrea) Green of Carrollton, Texas; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one nephew, Charles Purvis Jr.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 19 at First Baptist Church, Bogalusa, from 9:30 a.m. until time for the funeral services at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Hillview Memorial Gardens. The officiant will be the Rev. Bob Adams. Deacons of First Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

Rosco Lewis Merrell, 88, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. He was born March 28, 1924.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories four sons, Rudolph (Glendale) Merrell, Jessie (Cynthia) Merrell, Lonnie (Katherine) Merrell and Dallas (Sharon) Merrell, all of New Orleans; two daughters, Amelia (Jerome) and Genevieve Merrell, both of New Orleans; one brother, William Sam Merrell; 17 grandchildren’ and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Augustine Dillon Merrell; his second wife, Joyce Carter James Merrell; one son, Alvin Merrell; six brothers, Percy, Charlie, Sidney, Esco, David and Dewitt; four sisters, Alma Merrell, Mary Merrell Walker, Willie J. Wilson and Altie Mae Bridges.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Terrence August, officiating. Interment will follow at Toomer Cemetery.

Meriam Penny Crowe

Meriam Penny Crowe, 76, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at AMG Specialty Hospital of Bogalusa. Born Oct. 6, 1936, she was a native and longtime resident of Bogalusa and a member of Annunciation Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sons, Osa Wayne (Michelle) Palmer of Bogalusa and Nicholas Doyle (Jean) Palmer of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Norma P. Brown of Zachary and Pamela Sue (Ernie) Lee of Slaughter; two brothers, Tommy Penny and Charlie Penny, both of Bogalusa; a half sister Carolyn Barr of Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Osa Doyle and Hazel Claire Penny; her husband, Merle Denver Crowe; a brother Osa Doyle Penny Jr.; and a sister-in-law, June Penny.

Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Brown- McGehee Funeral Home, from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Father Patrick Collum. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.

Mervin Anthony, 76, born April 17, 1936, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at his residence in Franklinton.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories five daughters, Brenda Anthony, Beverly Magee and Vanessa Anthony, all of Franklinton, Stephanie Anthony of New Orleans and Paula Anthony of Franklinton; five sons, Lemurl Anthony and Ricky Anthony, both of New Orleans, and Preston Anthony, Corey Anthony and Randy Anthony, all of Franklinton; one brother, Willie Anthony of New Orleans; three sisters, Ollie Mae Lonigo of Los Angeles, Calif. and Jeanette Hart and Mary Partman, both of Franklinton; a special grandchild who he raised, Jaeem McClain of Franklinton, 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Anthony; his parents, Ester Anthony and Blua Warren Anthony; one son, Charles Anthony; one daughter, Rosemary Brumfield; two brothers, Shelton and Jimmy Anthony; and two sisters, Hynethia Wilson and Rose Wilson.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 11 from 2- 7 p.m. at Crain & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Franklinton. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, with Rev. Willie B. Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenback Cemetery.

Cecil Talley, 89, a resident of Carriere, Miss., passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.

Born Jan. 20, 1923, she was a member of Ben’s Ford Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Vertrice (Luke) Breland and Emelda Hammond; 15 grandchildren, Glenda Applewhite, Jock Burge, Missy Hammond, Luke Breland, Steven Breland, Adam Breland, Kurt Perry, Shannon Perry, Becky Byrd, Shannon Lee, Shana Phillips, Dana Lee, Josh Lee, J.J. Lee and Ashlea McKenzie; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Otis B. Lee Sr. and Bass Talley; a son, Otis B. Lee Jr.; a daughter, Marilyn Perry; brothers, Rankin Stogner, Dutch Stogner and Allen McDaniel; a sister, Emily Hyde; and grandsons, Mark Breland and Brent Perry.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Ben’s Ford Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Interment followed in Henleyfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cedric Brumfield

Cedric Brumfield | Obituary | Bogalusa, LA

Cedric Brumfield, a native of Mt. Hermon, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.

He was born Aug. 24, 1940 to Clifford and Cloudia Brumfield, the second of eight children born to the union.

Cedric accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor James Vernon and served faithfully until his health began to fail him. He was employed by Patterson Steel for 25 years, and then worked for the state of Mississippi in Pascagoula until his retirement. In 1963 he and Norma Lee Magee were united in marriage and to this union six children were born.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Norma Lee Brumfield of Franklinton; six children, Lori, Cris, Angela and Tondra, all of Franklinton, and Lawrence Brumfield and Tony Brumfield, both of San Antonia, Texas; three special children, Rada, Johnathan and Christopher of Oyska, Miss.; three sisters, Betty (William) Bickham of New Mexico, Glendora Bouligny of New Orleans and Jerry McDonald of Mt. Hermon; two brothers, Murlie (Rose) Brumfield and Donnie (Gladys) Brumfield, both of Mt. Hermon; 14 grandchildren, Brandon, Michael, Tony Jr., Tyler, Thomas, Tavis and Leelaya Marie; one uncle, Myrtis Brumfield of Mt. Hermon; a special nephew, Scott Barnes of New Orleans; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Cloudia Brumfield; one sister, Norma Jean Graves; and two brothers, Charles Brumfield and Willie Ray Brumfield.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 11, from 2-7 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Franklinton. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church at 2 p.m., with Rev. George E. Butler officiating. Rev. Johnny Causey will be the eulogist. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Wilda Berry Tynes

Wilda Berry Tynes, 93, a resident of Sandy Hook, Miss., passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Marion General Hospital in Columbia, Miss. She was born on Feb. 4, 1919 in Marion County, Miss.

She worked with the Washington Parish School System in the reading program and was a second and third grade teacher’ aide at Wesley Ray Elementary for 22 years. Her ministry in life was to be a Christian role model for children and young people.

She was a devoted wife to her husband, Rev. Locthe Tynes, who preceded her in death. She was a loving second mother and aunt to many. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Berry and Rebecca Slade Berry; six sisters, Mary Jane Berry Herring, Belle Berry Herring, Allie Berry Kennedy, Maricie Berry Kennedy, Delhia Berry McKenzie and Margie Berry Kennedy; and three brothers, Henry Berry, Thomas Berry Jr. and Elwood Berry.

Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 7 at Stateline Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Donnie Broome and Rev. Jerry Kennedy and Rev. Brent King officiating. Interment will follow at Tynes Cemetery in Stateline.

The family would like to thank her special longtime caregivers, Mary Bullock and Yvonne Fortenberry, and the Hospice Caregivers, Linda, Vanessa and Dianna.

Miley and Barrett Adams; three great-grandchildren, Summer Miley, Marleigh Norman and Presley Crain; two step-granddaughters, Theresa Lott and Melissa Wood; one step-grandson, John Mason “Woody” Wood; one step-great-grandson, Zachary Lott; one step-great-granddaughter, Katelyn Spillman.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. Howard Miley and Mason Wood; her parents, Claude Brock and Elma Louise Brumfield Brock; one brother, Dr. Charles Scroggs; and one stepson, Terry Wood.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. Visitation continued on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Lynn Martin, Bro. Otha Schilling and Rev. Marcus Rosa officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.

He is survived by his son, Jeremiah Eugin of Angie; his daughter, Alyssa Ridgdell of Bogalusa; his mother and stepfather, Gloye (Robert) Mead of Roxton, Texas; three sisters, Angie (Carl) Green of Angie and Stacy (Micheal) Turlich, both of Angie, and Jessie (T.J.) Smith of Franklinton; one brother, R.J. (Summer) Eugin of Seattle, Wash.; two stepsisters, Erica Fritz of Tylertown, Miss., and Alisha Fritz of Franklinton; two stepbrothers, Daniel Fritz of Franklinton and Lawrence Mead of Salem, Ore.; a special uncle, Howard Eugin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His father, R.J. Eugin Sr.; his stepmother, Eva Eugin; stepbrother, James Fritz; and a niece, Jessamy Smith, preceded him in death.

Marjorie Elaine Jefferson was born in Bogalusa on March 28, 1933 to the late Anderson Brown Sr. and Rosa Lee Brown. She departed this life on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012.

At a very early age, she attended church and sang in the choir. Throughout her life, she blessed many with her strong soprano voice. She was known for her active involvement in community and civic activities. She tirelessly cared for her loved ones and was a pillar in her community.

She will be sadly missed by her sons, Joseph E. (Diane) Jefferson Jr. and Dwight D. Jefferson, both of Bogalusa; daughters, JoAnn (Brian) Toval of New Orleans and Irma Jefferson of Angie; sisters, Nadine Foster of Bainbridge, Ga., Cleta Lee and Amanda Smith, both of Rochester, N.Y. and Clemontine Ratliff of Gardena, Calif.; brothers, Anderson Brown Jr. of Inglewood, Calif. and Calvin E. Brown of Bogalusa; one aunt, Mamie B. Garret of Folsom; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 3 at Crain & Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 4-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday at noon at Harry’s Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Louis Smith, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at Jefferson Cemetery.
