William Anthony “Andy” Fussell

William Anthony “Andy” Fussell, 45, a resident of Franklinton born May 3, 1967, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 in Bay St. Louis, Miss.

He was a former accountant with Northlake Moving and Storage and once worked with the Bob Hope Foundation in Florida. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a very loving spirit. Andy was always a generous person who enjoyed life to the fullest.

He is survived by four sisters, Terri Raburn of Baton Rouge, Laura J. Cooper of Franklinton, Susan Rushing of Tylertown, Miss. and Kay Barber of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; five brothers, John Thomas of Franklinton, Clinton Fussell of Enon, Richard Fussell of Franklinton, Wes Fussell of Enon and Richard Fussell of Shreveport; a brother-in-law, Chubby Fussell of Franklinton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Daryel Fussell and Geraldine Helton Fussell; a sister, Sissy Fussell; and his grandparents.

Denmon “Pop” Stewart

Denmon “Pop” Stewart | Obituary | Bogalusa, LA

On Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, God chose to take Denmon “Pop” Stewart to his new home in heaven at the age of 73.

He was born on Nov. 14, 1939 in Franklinton, to the late Shelly Stewart and Myolee Stewart.

He leaves to cherish his memories his four children, Phenella Faye Stewart and Mark (Georgiana) Stewart, both of Slidell, and Kendall Stewart and Dawn (Kelvin) Warren, both of Franklinton; two sisters, Doris (Lenwood) Thompson of Franklinton and Cynthia Warren of Los Angeles; four brothers, William Stewart of Osyka, Miss., Claude Stewart of Arizona, Clarence Stewart of Covington and Larry Stewart of Franklinton; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelly and Myolee Stewart; his wife, Charlean J. Stewart; one child, Denmon Charles Stewart; three brothers, Troy Stewart, Earl Stewart and LeRoy “Buck” Stewart; and two sisters, Delores Stewart and Shirley Stewart.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at noon at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton, with Rev. Lenwood Thompson, pastor, officiating.

Meriam Penny Crowe

Meriam Penny Crowe, 76, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at AMG Specialty Hospital of Bogalusa. Born Oct. 6, 1936, she was a native and longtime resident of Bogalusa and a member of Annunciation Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sons, Osa Wayne (Michelle) Palmer of Bogalusa and Nicholas Doyle (Jean) Palmer of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Norma P. Brown of Zachary and Pamela Sue (Ernie) Lee of Slaughter; two brothers, Tommy Penny and Charlie Penny, both of Bogalusa; a half sister Carolyn Barr of Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Osa Doyle and Hazel Claire Penny; her husband, Merle Denver Crowe; a brother Osa Doyle Penny Jr.; and a sister-in-law, June Penny.

Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Brown- McGehee Funeral Home, from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Father Patrick Collum. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.

David Joseph Troxclair

Bush resident David Joseph Troxclair, a native of Metairie, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at the age of 51.

He was the husband of Angela Williams Troxclair and the beloved son of Elaine Troxclair Lescale and the late Laurent Joseph Troxclair; the brother of Richard Troxclair (Amy), Susan T. Daniel (David), Donna T. Laird (Geoffrey) and the late Karen Tennant (Robb) and Mary Kestler (Bruce); the stepson of the late Henry E. Lescale Jr., and stepbrother of Clement Lescale (Mary), Henry E. Lescale III, Russell Lescale (Cherie), Richard Lescale (Leetrice) and Lynn Culton (Bill); devoted nephew of Vivian Aucoin; son-in-law of Rawlin and Lani Williams; and brother-in-law of Kelli and Tommy Robert, and Kim and Michael Flocke. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David was a graduate of Rummel High School and Delgado Community College. He was a master skilled carpenter who took meticulous pride in his work and received nothing but praise for his craftsmanship. He was a member of the Krewe of Zeus for many years. A friend to all who knew him, he will be sadly missed.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Monday, Jan. 7 at Annunciation Catholic Church located at 517 Avenue B in Bogalusa. The viewing will begin at 5 p.m. with a Mass following at 7 p.m.

Carl E. Cutrer Jr.

Carl E. Cutrer Jr., a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at the age of 63. He was born in Bogalusa on Nov. 28, 1949 to Carl and Marjorie Cutrer. He graduated from Bogalusa High School and earned a degree from Louisiana State University in 1974 where he was a member of the LSU Tiger Band. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist IV. Carl worked at the family-owned and operated Red Bird Ice Cream Company in Bogalusa for many years and then moved to Baton Rouge where he worked in the insurance industry for more than 20 years.

An accomplished musician, he played the trumpet in numerous community bands and orchestras and was a founding member of the Jefferson Baptist Church Orchestra.

He is survived by his father, Carl E. Cutrer Sr. of Bogalusa; a brother, Hardy (Lori) Cutrer of Baton Rouge; a sister, Margaret Cutrer (David) Tynes of Petal, Miss.; and four nephews, Daniel (Emily) Tynes, Paul (Raven) Tynes and Charley Tynes, all of Petal, and J. Hardy Cutrer of Baton Rouge.

His mother, Marjorie Jean Smith Cutrer, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 4 at Jefferson Baptist Church in Baton Rouge from 8:30 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Bogalusa.

Marjorie Elaine Jefferson

Marjorie Elaine Jefferson | Obituary | Bogalusa, LA

Marjorie Elaine Jefferson was born in Bogalusa on March 28, 1933 to the late Anderson Brown Sr. and Rosa Lee Brown. She departed this life on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012.

At a very early age, she attended church and sang in the choir. Throughout her life, she blessed many with her strong soprano voice. She was known for her active involvement in community and civic activities. She tirelessly cared for her loved ones and was a pillar in her community.

She will be sadly missed by her sons, Joseph E. (Diane) Jefferson Jr. and Dwight D. Jefferson, both of Bogalusa; daughters, JoAnn (Brian) Toval of New Orleans and Irma Jefferson of Angie; sisters, Nadine Foster of Bainbridge, Ga., Cleta Lee and Amanda Smith, both of Rochester, N.Y. and Clemontine Ratliff of Gardena, Calif.; brothers, Anderson Brown Jr. of Inglewood, Calif. and Calvin E. Brown of Bogalusa; one aunt, Mamie B. Garret of Folsom; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 3 at Crain & Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 4-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday at noon at Harry’s Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Louis Smith, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at Jefferson Cemetery.

Julian Dale Noles

Julian Dale Noles, 41, a resident of Leesville, died at 4:08 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Born May 2, 1971, he was a native of Franklinton and a truck driver for American Moving and Storage in Leesville. He loved driving trucks and enjoyed watching movies and collecting swords and knives.

He is survived by two stepdaughters, Amie Ladett Lott of Columbia, Miss. and Benetha Ann Jones of Youngsville; six grandchildren, Jarrett Jones, Angel Jones, Zachary Jones, Trinity Breland, Payton Breland and Taylor Jones; his former wife, Annie Noles of Columbia; a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Clyde Luper of Franklinton; five nephews, Dustin Luper, Matthew Luper, David Dickerson, Thomas Clawson and John Boone Jr.; two nieces, Deana Clawson and Peggy Lynn Breland; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John Boone Sr. and Cindy Boone, both of Pine.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Walker; a sister, Emma Louise Clawson; and grandson, Joseph Jones

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 28 at Crain Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Larry Archote officiating. Burial will follow in the Corkern/Caves Cemetery.

Velva Ann Fortenberry

Velva Ann Fortenberry, 60, a resident of Franklinton, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Riverside Medical Center.

She was born in Tylertown, Miss., on Sept. 7, 1952. She was an educator in the Washington Parish School System for 30 years, but kept busy working in her yard since retirement. She enjoyed the time spent in the company of friends and family. More recently she fought battles with heart disease and cancer but never gave up hope of getting better. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her sister, Iris (Donald) Fornea of Angie; two nephews, Brett Fornea of Stateline and Seth Fornea of Raleigh, N.C.; two nieces, Tiffanie Fornea of Covington and Rebel Fornea of Raleigh; two great-nephews, Cole and Blake Fornea; and several aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burrell W. Fortenberry and Iris Stinson Fortenberry; and grandparents, Letie Stinson and Della Dillon Stinson, and Burrell H. Fortenberry and Ossie Magee Fortenberry.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 28 at Crain Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A private family burial will take place afterwards at Rushing Cemetery in Tylertown.

Gulledge McCain

Gulledge McCain, 76, a former resident of Bogalusa who was born in Sandy Hook, Miss., passed away Nov. 3, 2012 at his home in Walls, Miss.

He is survived by one son, Gavin (Luella)McCain; three grandchildren, Katherine, Owen and Gina, all of Bogalusa; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Willie and Elizabeth “Betty” Seal McCain, four sisters and three brothers.

Hernando Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorial services were held in Walls.

Doris B. Simmons, 81 a resident of Bogalusa, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at her son’s residence in Covington. She was born April 6, 1931.

She is survived by four children, Wilford O’Neal (Jane) Simmons Jr. of Covington, Bonnie (Terry) Ruiz of White Sand, Miss., Steven “Rusty” (Caroline) Simmons of Rusk, Texas and Craig (Twila) Simmons of Franklinton; eight grandchildren, Neal Simmons, Penny Perrett Johanson, Steven and Cassie Simmons, Kaylan (Tori), Logan and Jacob and Austin Simmons; four great-grandchildren, Justin Patrick Johanson, Rex Alan Perrett, Faylinn Simmons and Kobyn Simmons; numerous nieces, Connie Breland Broadwater, Becky Breland Ranney, Brenda Bynum, Ann Simmons Creel, Elizabeth Constance Simmons (Donnie Smith); and numerous nephews, Bill Broadwater, Ricky Simmons, Perry Hancock, William “Billy” Simmons and John Albert Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford O’Neal “Buster” Simmons Sr.; two grandsons, Terry Lynn and Alan Lane Perrett; her mother, Altie Rusk; and her father, P. C. Bush.

There will be graveside service at 1 p.m. at Hillview Memorial Gardens on Saturday, Dec. 15, with Rev. Bill Broadwater officiating.
