Kathryn Louise “Cin” Johnson Burkhalter departed this life Saturday, May 12, 2012.
She was born June 1, 1925 in Franklinton, to the late McKinley Johnson and Lillie Mae Brumfield Sims. She attended and graduated from Washington Parish Training School in 1942. After attending Southern University and A& M College for two years, she began working in the clerical field. She worked as a secretary for the Washington Parish School System until she retired in 1980.
At an early age, she joined Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness U.S.A., where she served faithfully as a member and Sunday school teacher for the Senior Women’s Class. She also served as correspondence secretary until her health failed.
She married her high school sweetheart, Alfred Warren Burkhalter, in 1947, and they had one son, Roy Malcolm Burkhalter.
She is survived by her son, Roy (Priscilla) Burkhalter; three grandchildren, Monika Renee, Ashton Michelle, and her favorite grandson, Adrian Darnell Burkhalter, all of Baton Rouge; an uncle, Ollie Dyson; a nephew, Eld. R. Lionell (Peggy) Burkhalter of South Holland, Ill.; a niece, Priscilla (Roy) Brown of Las Vegas, Nev.; and great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and many great friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness U.S.A., with Rev. Washington Drake, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Sweet Home Cemetery.
